Agnes Newton Keith

AGNES NEWTON KEITH was brought up in Hollywood, graduated from the University of California, and in 1934 went to Sandakan, then British North Borneo as the wife of Harry G. Keith, Conservator of Forest and Director of Agriculture of North Borneo. Her husband persuaded her to write a book on her experience and impressions and enter it in the 1939 Atlantic Monthly Non-Fiction Prize Contest. That book, Land Below the Wind, won the contest by unanimous vote of the judges. Three Came Home is its sequel, although it tells a story as different as peace is from war.
